This week, Spectrum News1 featured Nightcapjournal and its co-founders Ron Tannebaum and Ken Pomerance in a news story. The topic related to the devastating effects of unhealthy drinking patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The story, titled Alcoholism and Covid-19: The Grey Zone, gives a glimpse into the life of Brandi Wiatrak. Brandi runs a website called Cultured Baby and her Mom After Hours podcast. On top of that, juggling her marketing career and family needs during lock down, she found herself drinking more than usual. Almost without realizing, alcohol had become her tool to cope with the stress of this years unprecedented events.
And she is not alone. Those who drank occasionally are now finding themselves drinking more because of the pandemic. Evidence of this was clearly seen by the Nightcapjournal team. According to Ron Tannebaum, the normal rate of growth was about four to 5,000 new members a month on the website. This grew to a staggering fifty thousand in March, and over eighty-five thousand in three months!
Ken Pomerance explains, “It’s a stressful time anyway, and for someone that’s trying to get over an addiction issue it’s devastating.”
